Gunfight in Gerrero State in Mexico

In the Igualapa area of Guerrero State in Mexico, police responded to a kidnapping report and encountered vigilantes. A gunfight ensued and two police and six other people were killed. The vigilantes are known as “community police” formed when citizens felt the authorities were not in control and not protecting the communities.

Many countries advise their citizens to avoid all travel to Guerrero State in Mexico due to violence, risk of kidnapping and the overall high safety and security risk.
