Hand, foot and mouth disease increasing in some areas of Vietnam

So far this year, there have been more than 24,700 reported cases of hand, foot and mouth disease. Last week, approximately 1,900 children were hospitalized. Two deaths have been registered. Although the total number of cases this year is lower than last year, some areas are recording increases. These areas include Ho Chi Minh City and other southern provinces such as Ba Ria- Vung Tau, Ca Mau, Soc Trang, Binh Duong, and Bac Lieu.

Small children are most susceptible to infection with this virus. Travellers who are travelling with small children can decrease the risk of exposure to hand, foot and mouth disease virus by washing their hands frequently and by maintaining careful personal hygiene.
