Hand, foot and mouth disease is increasing in Beijing, China

In Beijing, according to reports, in March, the city reported a total of 453 cases of hand, foot and mouth disease. This is an increase compared to the 66 reported cases in February. Disease control authorities predict that the number of reported cases of this illness will gradually increase as the high season for transmission approaches.

Small children less than ten years old are most susceptible to infection with this virus. Travellers who are travelling with small children can decrease the risk of exposure to hand, foot and mouth disease virus by washing their hands frequently and by maintaining careful personal hygiene.
