Hand, foot and mouth disease is widespread in Malaysia

In the first week of August, there were 1,885 cases of hand, foot, and mouth disease. Nationwide, there have been more than 23,000 reported cases. The most affected provinces reporting at least 500 cases include Selangor, Sarawak, Johor, Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur, Sabah, Perak, Penang, Melaka, and Negeri Sembilan.

Advice For Travellers

Small children are most susceptible to infection with this virus. Travellers who are travelling with small children can decrease the risk of exposure to hand, foot and mouth disease virus by washing hands frequently and by maintaining careful personal hygiene.
