Hand, foot and mouth disease now reported in Hunan Province, China

In March, there were 4,201 reported cases of hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD), including 24 severe infections who died. The number of cases represents almost a doubling of the reported cases for the month of February. The most affected municpalities included Changsha, Shaoyang, Loudi, Hunan State, and Chenzhou. Travellers should be aware that the season for HFMD has started in China and there may be many more cases in other provinces as well.

Travellers who are travelling with small children who aremost susceptible to infection with this virus can decrease the risk of exposureto hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) virus by frequent hand washing andmaintaining careful personal hygiene.
