Hand, foot and mouth disease occurs frequently in Vietnam

The following municipalities and areas are reporting significant numbers of cases of hand, foot and mouth disease:

  • Hanoi - recorded 230 infected children, mainly from 1 to 3 years old.
  • Hai Phong and Da Nang - almost 3,800 cases of the past two months
  • Hau Giang and Dong Thap - In January, there were over 1,500 cases and 2 deaths.

Small children less than ten years old are most susceptible to infection with this virus. Travellers who are travelling with small children can decrease the risk of exposure to hand, foot and mouth disease virus by washing their hands frequently and by maintaining careful personal hygiene.
