Hand, foot and mouth disease reported in Hanoi, Vietnam

An outbreak of hand, foot and mouth disease in ten districts in Hanoi has infected 36 people this year. Five separate outbreaks suggest that there is a high risk of a widespread outbreak. In 2014, there were 80,685 cases of this infection with 8 deaths nationwide.

Small children less than ten years old are most susceptible to infection with this virus. Travellers who are travelling with small children can decrease the risk of exposure to hand, foot and mouth disease virus by washing their hands frequently and by maintaining careful personal hygiene.
