Advice For Travellers

Hantavirus infections are commonly found in the Biobío region. Inhaling contaminated dust, consuming contaminated food, and hands that are contaminated with the dried urine and excreta of infected rodents is the main way people become infected. Although the risk for the general travellers is low, travellers should try to avoid inhaling dust in places where rodents inhabit. Frequent hand washing may help reduce the risk of exposure.
