Health authorities concerned regarding doubling of dengue fever cases

Health authorities have expressed concern regarding the number of reported cases of dengue fever. So far in 2012, a total of 587 cases have been registered, nearly double the number for this period last year.

Travellers to El Salvador can reduce their risk of exposure to dengue fever virus by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with dengue fever may not seek medical care and may not be reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community that are not reported.
