Health officials in Saudi Arabia report a new coronavirus

Health officials in Saudi Arabia announced today that three people have been diagnosed with a new form of the coronavirus. Two of the cases have died and the third is still being treated. Health officials report that this new virus has never been identified in humans. Coronaviruses belong to a group of viruses that include the common cold but are also in the same family as the SARS virus that caused the deaths of 800 people in 2002.

Reports indicate no human-to-human transmission of this virus, therefore, the World Health Organization is not recommending any travel restrictions, but will be investigating and monitoring the situation.
