Health officials warn of typhoid epidemic in Leyte, Philippines

Health officials have reported 102 cases of typhoid fever from the towns of Carigara, Capoocan, Tunga, and Barugo. A hospital in Tacloban City has also noted a significan rise in cases.

Travellers to these areas can reduce their risk of exposure to typhoid fever by being cautious and avoiding consuming contaminated food or water. Vaccination against typhoid fever should be considered, especially if unsafe food cannot be avoided.
