Hepatitis A cases continue to appear in Hawaii, USA
Although the frozen scallops from the Philippines that have been identified as the source of the outbreak of hepatitis A have been withdrawn, new cases continue to be diagnosed due to the exceptionally long incubation period for this disease. So far, the total has reached 250 infected people.
Any traveller who consumed uncooked scallop sushi in Hawaii and who develops signs and symptoms of hepatitis should seek medical care. Travellers are reminded that hepatitis A can be prevented by vaccination prior to travelling.
