Hepatitis A epidemic fills hospitals in Ferghana Region, Uzbekistan

Health authorities have reported a widespread epidemic of hepatitis A in the Ferghana region of Uzbekistan. Although the total number of cases is not specified, reports say that the local hospital is full of hepatitis patients. Hepatitis A can be prevented through vaccination. When there is a risk of exposure to hepatitis A virus, travellers can reduce this risk by obtaining the vaccine prior to travelling and by exercising caution and avoiding consuming contaminated food and water.
