Hepatitis A outbreak in Estonia is concentrated in Vijandi County

As of September 12, health authorities have reported 41 cases of viral hepatitis in Estonia. Of those, 29 have been confirmed in Viljandi County. Since hepatitis A has a very long incubation period, more cases will be reported in the coming weeks.

A local disease prevention task force has been formed to focus on preventing the spread of the disease.

Travellers to Estonia should be aware of the risk of exposure to hepatitis A virus, Vaccination against hepatitis A prior to travelling is recommended.
