Hepatitis A outbreak in school children in Veracruz, Mexico

Health officials have identified an outbreak of hepatitis A in communities in Veracruz. Approximately 100 school children have been infected due to poor sanitary conditions, together with deficient or non-existent municipal public health preventive services.

Travellers should be aware that hepatitis A is preventable through vaccination. There is a risk of exposure to hepatitis A virus, and travellers can reduce this risk by exercising caution and avoiding consuming contaminated food and water.
