Hepatitis E is confirmed as the cause of large scale outbreak in Icchalkaranji, Kolhapur, India (update)

Laboratory tests have confirmed that hepatitis E is the cause of the large scale outbreak resulting from serious contamination of municipal drinking water. The total number of cases has risen to 4,085 people. Authorities have identified 78 infected pregnant women who are at high risk for complications of hepatitis E.

When there is a risk of exposure to hepatitis E virus, travellers can reduce this risk by exercising caution and avoiding consuming contaminated food and water.
