Hepatitis E linked to raw pig liver sausage

Studies have confirmed that hepatitis E transmission is associated with consumption of raw pig liver sausage (known as figatellu; plural: figatelli) in southeastern France. Since this virus is transmitted mostly through contaminated food or drinking water, travellers can reduce the risk of exposure by following strict water and food safety precautions.

Visit our Health Library for more information on exposure to and the prevention of Hepatitis E.
