Hepatitis E outbreak in refugee camp in Sudan

An outbreak of hepatitis involving over 500 cases with 150 deaths has been reported at Kalma refugee camp in South Darfur state. Healthcare and other aid workers are at risk and should follow all food and water precautions. Since this virus is transmitted mostly through contaminated drinking water, travellers can reduce the risk of exposure by following strict water and food safety precautions.
