Hepatitis outbreak in Jaipur, India

An outbreak of hepatitis with 32 infected people is being blamed on contaminated water supplies in 3 colonies of Malviya Nagar in Jaipur, Rajasthan. It is unclear if this outbreak is due to hepatitis A or hepatitis E virus. Hepatitis A virus infection does not often result in death, but hepatitis E virus infection can be fatal.

Although there is a highly effective vaccine against hepatitis A, there is none against hepatitis E. Travellers should follow all water and food precautions to reduce the risk of hepatitis.
