High levels of dengue fever in several municipalities in Paraná, Brazil

Several cities in the state of Paraná are experiencing increased levels of dengue fever. In the past 5 months, there have been more than 2,500 reported cases and 1 death. The most affected municipalities include Londrina, Cambé, Cascavel, Itaúna do Sul, Paranapoema, São João do Caiuá and São Pedro do Paranáno.

Travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with dengue fever do not seek medical care and are not reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community than the reports indicate.
