High levels of dengue fever throughout Brazil
Dengue fever is widespread in Brazil. So far this year, there have been almost 1,260,000 reported cases of this infection nationwide. The southeast area of the country has reported almost two thirds of all the cases. The highest levels of dengue have been found in the states of Goiás, São Paulo and Minas Gerais. There have been 530 deaths.
All travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with dengue fever do not seek medical care and are not reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community than the reports indicate.
