High risk of dengue fever in Paraiba State, Brazil

At present, approximately one-third of the 223 municipalities in the state are at risk of epidemics of dengue fever. So far, there have been 11,914 suspected cases of this infection statewide. The most affected municipalities include Pombal, Alhandra, Campina Grande, Umbuzeiro, Coremas and João Pessoa.

Advice For Travellers

Travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with dengue fever do not seek medical care and are not reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community than the reports indicate.
