High risk of malaria in South Sudan

In an unprecedented malaria outbreak in 2015, there were approximately 2.28 million people infected with malaria and 1,340 of them died. The population of the country is approximately 12 million people, which means that about 1 out of every 6 people was infected with malaria.

There is a very high risk of exposure to malaria in this country. All travellers to South Sudan can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Anti-malaria medication is recommended.
