Hospitals in Guatemala on alert for dengue fever cases

The president of Guatemala has alerted hospitals to be on the lookout for serious cases of dengue fever after 4 deaths were reported. A total of 1,186 cases have been reported nationally so far.

Travellers to Guatemala can reduce their risk of exposure to dengue fever virus by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with dengue fever may not seek medical care and may not be reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community that are not reported.
