Huge impact of dengue fever in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

While the risk of dengue fever is decreasing in the temperate areas of Brazil due to winter temperatures, the impact of dengue fever in places like Rio de Janeiro State has been significant. Although the number of reported cases has been decreasing since the peak of the outbreak in April 2011, a total of 154,669 cases of dengue fever have been recorded along with 113 deaths.

Travellers in areas where dengue fever is occurring should be aware of the risk of exposure and take all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
