Huge increase in reported dengue fever cases in Delhi, India

There have been 443 new cases of dengue fever reported since last Friday. This is an increase of almost 50 per cent in the last four days. The total for the year has reached 1,355 cases. The season for dengue fever is now peaking in the Capital area. There may be many more unreported cases of dengue since counting and reporting cases may be hampered by lack of local access to health care, and many persons with mild illness may not seek health care. Travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure to dengue fever virus by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
