Imported chikungunya fever in USA

Since the introduction of the chikungunya fever virus in the Americas, tourists and other travellers from the USA have returned from their travels in the Caribbean, Central America and South America with this illness. Although there has been no further transmission of the virus in this country, there have been 294 reported cases this year in 36 states.

Advice For Travellers

Travellers are reminded that this virus has spread extensively throughout the Caribbean region (including tourist areas), Central America and South America. In almost all temperate and tropical countries in the Americas, travellers should follow measures to avoid mosquito bites.
