In Nepal, month of protests and strikes beginning February 21, 2017

Local elections will take place in May 2017. The Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha (SLMM) (an alliance of seven parties) has announced a month of protests and strikes beginning February 21, 2017. Their program will include a full shut-down of the Terai region on February 22, 2017.

Expect and plan for major disruption of transportation and services. Avoid areas where mass meetings or protests are being held. Peaceful rallies can quickly and unexpectedly escalate and become violent.
