Increase in cases and deaths due to dengue fever in Malaysia

Malaysia is recording increasing numbers of dengue fever cases and deaths. So far, there have been 80,654 dengue fever cases nationwide from January to August, an increase of at least 15,000 cases compared to last year. The number of deaths has reached 219 people.

Advice For Travellers

All travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with dengue fever do not seek medical care and are not reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community than the reports indicate.
