Increase in Ebola cases in new outbreak in Democratic Republic of the Congo

In the most recent reports on the new Ebola outbreak in Equateur Province, health officials have registered 13 deaths (including 5 healthcare workers) out of the 42 suspected and confirmed cases. Special teams have been sent to the affected area for treating and controlling the spread of this infection. As is the case in the other unrelated Ebola outbreak in West Africa, the World Health Organization has not recommended any travel restrictions. The risk of exposure for the general traveller is very low provided all contact with ill persons or people who have cared for ill persons is avoided.
