Increase in malaria cases along Thai-Malaysian border

In the southern-most provinces of Yala, Narathiwat and Pattani, where a low level armed insurgency close to the Thai-Malaysian border has been entrenched since 2004 , the number of malaria cases has increased dramatically to over 4,000.

Travellers to this region should be aware of the increased risk of exposure to malaria and take all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Malaria prophylaxis is recommended when travelling in this area.
