Increase in malaria cases in Chandigarh

Health authorities in Chandigarh (the capital of 2 states in India, Haryana and Punjab) have noted an increase in the number of reported malaria cases. Over 450 cases of malaria have been recorded so far this year. The increase in the city parallels the trend in all of northern India.

Travellers to these areas should be aware of the risk of exposure to malaria and take all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Anti-malaria medication is recommended.
