Increase in reported Lyme Disease cases in Virginia concerns health officials

More cases of Lyme Disease (29 cases) have been reported this year than for the same time period as last year. The affected areas include Southwestern and Central Virginia. Travellers in areas where Lyme disease occurs can reduce their risk of exposure to this disease by avoiding tick bites, whenever possible, especially when hiking or camping in fields, scrub brush, woods and forests. Checking the skin daily tick checks and prompt removal of an attached tick will help to reduce the risk of infection.
