Increased hand, foot and mouth disease in Vietnam

In the past 2 weeks, the number of children infected with the virus that causes hand, foot and mouth disease has doubled. To date, more than 5,200 cases have been reported. No deaths have been registered. Compared to the same period in 2016, the number of cases is greater by 31%.

Advice For Travellers

The risk of exposure will vary from place to place. Small children are most susceptible to infection with this virus. Travellers who are travelling with small children can decrease the risk of exposure to hand, foot and mouth disease virus by washing hands frequently and by maintaining careful personal hygiene.
