Increases in cases of West Nile Fever in USA

Over the past week, sporadic cases of West Nile Fever have increased from 90 cases to 141 cases with 3 deaths. The number of states reporting 1 or more cases has increased to 29 states. The states reporting the largest number of cases include Arizona (25), California (18), Oklahoma (10) and Texas (15).

Advice For Travellers

The risk for the general traveller is very low. However, since there is no vaccine or treatment for West Nile fever, travellers to areas where this virus has been found can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
