Influenza is increasing in northern hemisphere

According to the World Health Organization, influenza activity is increasing throughout the northern hemisphere.

  • In North America , influenza activity remained high in recent weeks with A(H1N1) flu strain being the most common.
  • In Europe , there is a slight increase in influenza activity that may be the beginning of the winter flu season.
  • In China , influenza activity continued to increase, also with the A(H1N1) strain. The B strain is also circulating.
  • In the southern hemisphere summer season, influenza activity remained low.
  • In tropical countries, flu activity is variable.
    Travellers who wish to reduce the risk of infection should consider vaccination with the currently available vaccine that offers protection against these circulating strains of flu virus.
