Intense transmission of cholera in Haiti

The Pan American Health Organization describes the cholera situation in Haiti as intense and wide-spread. So far this year, there have been 10,328 casos along with 106 deaths. Eight of the 10 departments have reported outbreaks. Cholera is now a common infection in Haiti.

All travellers to any area where cholera has been reported can reduce the risk of exposure to this infection by strictly observing all food and water precautions. If gastrointestinal symptoms (e.g., vomiting and profuse watery diarrhoea) develop while visiting the affected area, travellers should seek medical care at once.
