Islamic State coordinates attacks on army outposts in Sinai, Egypt

In one of the largest coordinated attacks in Sinai by the Islamic State militants, at least 17 soldiers and over 100 militants were killed. Militants carried out a wave of suicide bombings against at least five army outposts in and around Sheikh Zuweid and Rafah.

A state of emergency has been in effect for the north and center of the Sinai Peninsula. The army extended this state of emergency for 3 months last April.
