Japan issues level 3 warning for Mount Hakone area volcano

The Japanese Meteorological Agency has issued a level 3 warning (do not approach the volcano) for the Oowakudani Park after a very small eruption at the Japanese hot springs resort at Mount Hakone, Kanagawa Prefecture. A small number of people were evacuated after an evacuation advisory was issued for the area within a one-kilometer radius of the region.

Advice

Hakone is a resort known for its hot springs and views of Mount Fuji. Only a small part of the hot springs resort area is off-limits in the 1 kilometer radius around the Oowakudani volcano. Route 734 and 735 (Souunzan through Ubako) are closed and the buses that run this area are not operating at this time.
