Japanese encephalitis is fatal for 68 children in Gaya

Health authorities have reported 6 more deaths due to Japanese encephalitis, a brain infection. In the last 50 days, a total of 68 children have died in Bihar's Gaya district while the a total of 306 have received treatment to date. At least 50 children are still hospitalized in critical condition.

Travellers to this area should be aware of the risk of possible exposure to Japanese encephalitis virus and take all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Vaccination against Japanese encephalitis is recommended.
