Japanese encephalitis occuring in Taiwan

So far this year, there have been 17 reported cases of Japanese encephalitis, including one death, nationwide. Cases have occurred in the counties of Changhua, Pingtung, Hsinchu and Yilan, and the cities of Tainan, Chiayi, Kaohsiung, Taichung, and Yilan.

Since there is no vaccine or treatment for West Nile fever, travellers to areas where this virus has been found can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
