Japanese encephalitis returns to Assam State, India

Health authorities have reported 22 deaths from Japanese encephalitis. Another 28 people are being treated for this infection. Assam State has experienced outbreaks of Japanese encephalitis in the past.

Travellers to this area can reduce their risk of exposure to Japanese encephalitis virus by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Vaccination against Japanese encephalitis is recommended.
