Kala-azar disease [leishmaniasis] increases dramatically in South Sudan

So far this year, there have been 4,624 cases of Kala-azar disease [leishmaniasis], compared to 1,614 cases reported for the same time period last year. The most affected areas include Chuil, Lankien, and Malakal districts. Travellers to this region can reduce their risk of exposure to leishmaniasis by taking all necessary precautions to avoid sand fly bites.
