Kurds clash with Turkish police in Diyarbakir and Istanbul, Turkey

Today in the southeastern city of Diyarbakir, and also in Istanbul, thousands of Kurdish protesters clashed with Turkish police. Protestors threw petrol bombs and police responded with tear gas and water cannons. The protestors were demonstrating to draw attention to Kurdish prisoners who are on a 6-week hunger strike.

Travellers are warned to avoid public gatherings or demonstrations as violence can erupt without warning.
