Kyasanur forest disease increasing in Karnataka State, India

Reports of Kyasanur forest disease (also known as monkey fever) have increased in parts of Shimoga, Chikmagalur and Dakshina Kannada districts. So far there have been 74 cases of this viral infection.

Kyasanur forest disease is spread through the bite of a forest tick, which carries the disease-causing virus from monkeys and other hosts to humans. To reduce the risk of exposure, travellers in the affected districts follow recommendations for avoiding tick bites.
