Landslide in Costa Rica shuts down part of Caldera Highway

Today’s heavy rains in Costa Rica caused a landslide that has closed both lanes on the Caldera Highway (Route 27) at kilometer 45. This is the main highway along the country’s Pacific coast connecting San José with Puntarenas Province.

Advice For Travellers

Police have closed access to the Caldera Highway at the intersection to Orotina and the toll station at Atenas. A recommended alternate route is through Monte del Aguacate, on Route 3.
