Large cholera outbreak in western Tanzania

There are reports of a large cholera outbreak in 3 districts, Kigoma, Kasulu and Kigoma rural, with a total of 204 cases and 5 deaths. Most of the cases have occurred in Kigoma where food vendors and selling of water from unsafe sources has been halted.

All travellers to any area where cholera has been reported can reduce the risk of exposure to this infection by strictly observing all food and water precautions. If gastrointestinal symptoms (e.g., vomiting and profuse watery diarrhoea) develop while visiting the affected area, travellers should seek medical care at once.
