Large measles epidemic in 33 districts in Guinea

A major outbreak of measles in Guinea has resulted in the death of 1 child and as many as 400 suspected cases of the disease. The outbreak has spread to 33 districts. A large vaccination campaign is planned to try to contain the epidemic. Outbreaks of the highly contagious measles virus can occur frequently anywhere in the world at any time. Travellers can reduce their risk of exposure to measles virus by ensuring that their childhood vaccinations, including measles, are up-to-date prior to travelling.
