Large number of African Trypanosomiasis cases thought to exist in Bargu area of Kebbi State, Nigeria

There are reports of a high number of African trypanosomiasis (sleeping sickness) cases in the southern part of Bargu area of the Bagudo Local Government Area of Kebbi state. The exact number of cases is not reported, but it is suspected that many cases may not be reported to authorities due to incomplete surveillance.

Travellers in this region can reduce the risk of exposure to African trypanosomiasis by taking all necessary precautions to avoid being bitten by the tsetse fly (i.e., avoidance of insect bites).
