Large number of cases of malaria in Comoros Islands

So far in 2011, health authorities have recorded a total of 103,670 cases of malaria along with 53 deaths. Most of the cases occurred on Grande Comore, the largest island. Anjouan and Moheli were also affected.

Travellers to these islands should be aware of the high risk of exposure to malaria and take all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Anti-malaria medication is recommended.
